Rev. Dr. Wayne D. Mims is a native of Renova, Mississippi. He is a 1984 graduate of
East Side High School. He attended Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he
received his B.S. degree in Biology.
In December of 1990, Rev. Mims graduated from the Mike Monterey School of Air Traffic Control in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where he was one of only four blacks from his input to pass out of a class of 425 people.
Rev. Mims was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration from January of 1988 until his retirement on September 10, 2022. He has held positions as Air Traffic Control Specialist, Traffic Management Coordinator, Performance Management Supervisor, Operations Supervisor, Executive & Technical Representative, Air Traffic Manager of Birmingham Air Traffic Control Tower and he retired as the Air Traffic Manager of Columbus Air Traffic Control Tower.
He began his FAA career through a cooperative education program. Rev. Mims has won numerous awards for his diligent work as an Air Traffic Controller and Manager. Rev. Mims is married to Karese Phelente Burton of Birmingham, Alabama. They are blessed to have 3 wonderful daughters; Brittany 33, Kayla 23, and Brandy 21.
Rev. Mims accepted the call to ministry in October of 2003. He received his Master of Divinity from the Interdenominational Theological Center, Gammon Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia with a concentration of Psychology of Religion Pastoral Care & Counseling in the spring of 2008. He earned his Doctorate of Ministry from Northwestern Theological Seminary in 2010 with a concentration in New Church Development.
Rev. Mims ministry experience includes being the Young Adult minister for Andrews Chapel United Methodist Church in Jonesboro, Georgia as well as serving as Associate Lay Leader for Age Level & Family Ministry. He is the former pastor of the Hosanna United Methodist Church in Griffin, Georgia. Rev. Mims is currently the Lead Pastor of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Lovejoy, Georgia where under his leadership, the church has enjoyed consistent growth. With the help of God and the Holy Spirit, he has successfully joined the remnant of the Sacred Praise and the Shiloh United Methodist Church to form the Shiloh Church family. Since June of 2023 he has also been the Lead Pastor for St. Mark United Methodist Church in Fairburn, Georgia.
Rev. Mims is an accomplished writer. His work includes 2 Men’s Retreat manuals and leader’s guide. A compilation with other Stillman College graduates entitled, “Under the Magnolia Tree.” His books include “Revitalizing a Dying Church,” “Managing Work Life Balance,” and “From Pulpit to Power,” “Seeds of Faith, ” and “Stronger Mind, Stronger Man: Restoring Minds and Lives, Man to Man. He has led Men’s Retreats for district churches as well as leading seminars at the North Georgia Conference United Methodist Men’s Retreat at Rock Eagle. Rev. Rev. Mims believes that in order to cultivate a relationship with God, you must study the
word, meditate on the word, and pray for wisdom, knowledge and understanding. Rev.
Mims motto comes from Matthew 6:33 which states, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Rev. Mims believes that if you fervently seek God, extraordinary things happen when we allow ourselves to be used by Him in His service.
